Five Questions with Kristina Morgan, COO, Nymeo Federal Credit Union

1. How do you describe your credit union when introducing it to someone for the first time?

Nymeo is a locally rooted credit union. As a financial institution, we are dedicated to helping our members achieve financial well-being with personalized care and attention. In fact, we say that “Nymeo makes banking just for you”. 

Just like the Subaru commercial that shows the car meeting the needs of a growing family, we do that too. From the first savings account to retirement planning, we are here to support every step of our member’s financial journey with integrity, trust, and a personal touch.

2. What’s one thing that makes you most proud to be a leader at your credit union?

I’m incredibly proud of Nymeo’s commitment to genuinely help our members, the community support we offer, and most of all, our employee well-being. Being recognized as one of the Best Credit Unions to Work For and one of the Best Companies to work for in Maryland reflects how much we prioritize creating a positive, caring, and supportive environment. Leading an organization that genuinely cares about its members, its employees, and the broader community makes my role incredibly fulfilling and motivates me to help build on that success every single day.

3. What’s the #1 area of focus for your credit union as you plan for the next 12 months?

A top priority in 2025 is deepening our existing member relationship by enhancing engagement across all of our channels. We want to empower our current members to take full advantage of everything Nymeo offers from student accounts to valuable loans to our digital tools to retirement planning plus more. The goal is to make every interaction—whether online or in-branch—a meaningful experience that builds long-term loyalty.

4. When thinking about the future of your credit union, what’s your biggest concern or challenge?

Growth –  building memberships/new accounts. We open accounts and in turn close them. We need to find effective ways to introduce more people in our community to the value and benefits of joining Nymeo, especially in a heavily saturated market. And of course, we need to keep our current members happy, so they do not close accounts. 

Also, at the same time, another challenge is adapting to the rapid changes in technology and expectations in banking while maintaining our personal touch and commitment to members. Technology is evolving quickly, and people expect us to keep up with the conveniences they find elsewhere.

5. What’s the biggest thing that makes your credit union stand out from the competition?

We provide the right financial solutions at the right time for each member. We’re dedicated to understanding their needs and helping them navigate their financial journeys in life—whether that’s through personalized guidance, financial literacy, educational resources, or timely products like student accounts, loans, or specialized savings.  We also strive to help our members save money by lowering fees or eliminating them all together — we’re not just a credit union; we’re a financial ally for our community!
